A New 48-Team International Tournament

The headline feature of The World’s Game Update is a brand-new international tournament mode inspired by the expanded 2026 global football competition. Players will be able to participate in a 48-team tournament featuring 53 fully licensed national teams, including 41 nations that are competing in the real-world international football calendar.

The tournament follows the same structure as the upcoming expanded format, with 12 groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group, along with the best-performing third-place teams, advance to a Round of 32 before progressing through five knockout rounds to determine the champion.

This creates a more authentic international football experience than ever before in the EA Sports FC series, allowing players to lead traditional powerhouses such as Brazil, France, England, and Argentina or attempt a Cinderella run with emerging football nations.

More National Teams Than Ever

One of the standout features of the update is the expanded roster of playable national teams. EA Sports has significantly increased international representation, adding numerous fully licensed teams to the game. Players will have access to nations from every continent, creating a more diverse and immersive tournament experience.

The expanded selection also improves Kick-Off mode and international competition options, giving fans more flexibility when creating custom tournaments or playing exhibition matches.

Major Ultimate Team Changes

Football Ultimate Team receives a substantial boost through the Festival of Football event, which serves as the centerpiece of the update’s live-service content. The event introduces new campaigns, objectives, player items, and rewards tied directly to international football.

One of the biggest additions is the introduction of Tokens, a brand-new reward currency designed to give players greater control over how they earn and spend rewards. Tokens can be earned through various game modes, including Rivals, Squad Battles, Rush, Live Events, Objectives, and Squad Building Challenges. Players can exchange these tokens for packs, player items, Evolutions, and club customization rewards.

The update also introduces a dedicated Event Hub that centralizes Festival of Football activities, making it easier for players to track progress and participate in weekly content releases.

Free 93-Rated Pelé Available

Perhaps the most exciting Ultimate Team reward is the free 93-rated ICON version of Pelé. Players who log into FC 26 during the event period can claim this special card along with three “Choose Your Journey” Evolutions that allow further customization of the legendary footballer’s role on the pitch.

This reward gives Ultimate Team players immediate access to one of football’s greatest icons and serves as a major incentive to participate in the Festival of Football event.

Career Mode Gets International Football

Career Mode players have not been left behind. The international tournament is fully integrated into Career Mode, allowing managers to guide national teams through the same competition structure found in the standalone tournament mode.

New Live Starting Points let players jump directly into scenarios leading up to the tournament, while additional national team management options create more long-term career possibilities. EA Sports has also introduced new themed ICONs, Heroes, and Manager Challenges to keep Career Mode fresh throughout the event period.

For Player Career enthusiasts, the update raises progression caps and expands Archetype customization options, providing more room for player growth and specialization.

New Gameplay Improvements

Beyond content additions, The World’s Game Update includes several gameplay refinements based on community feedback. PlayStyles receive adjustments, team pressing mechanics are tuned, and Clubs mode benefits from various quality-of-life improvements.

A new limited-time Penalty Shootout mode also joins the game, offering a quick and competitive alternative for players looking for shorter matches and high-pressure moments.

These gameplay updates demonstrate EA Sports’ ongoing commitment to improving FC 26’s on-pitch experience while simultaneously expanding available content.
